On the Set
Serpent's Shield
A King's Castle
It's a week before Christmas, and the new Tory government is facing
dissent over its latest Bill. With a majority of only three, the
Whip's office is out in full force, and they'll stop at nothing to
keep the strays in line.
But they're in for a long night: boy scouts are rioting in
Whitehall, the PM's golfing with the President, five Tory rebels are
on the loose and the Chief Whip's playing at Santa - could this be
the beginnings of a leadership challenge?
From the writer of The Bush Theatre's hit show Damages (2005
Meyer-Whitworth Award winner), Steve Thompson's scandalously funny
new play blows the lid off the Despatch box and reveals the true
secrets locked in the Whips' safe.

Richard Wilson plays a successful businessman in his 60s who uses
high-class escorts and prostitutes with the full knowledge of his
wife; Lesley Sharp plays a prostitute who used to make up to £1000
per evening but realises age is against her; and Nikki Amuka-Bird
plays a Ugandan girl who came to the UK after seeing her parents
murdered and turns to prostitution to survive.
Fans of
Richard Wilson can get their hands on his hat after he donated a
Vivienne Westwood cap to the Celebrity Mad Hatter eBay Auction in
aid of the charity DebRA.
Every
year about 18,000 people over the age of 65 are hospitalised because
of pneumococcal pneumonia and for 10%-20% of these, the disease
proves fatal?
...
The Department of Health recommends that people aged 65 and over and
those with certain medical conditions should be immunised against
pneumococcal disease?
Nearly
70% of people in a recent survey had never heard of pneumococcal
disease... don't be like one of them...

In his Aberdeen flat, a young man stakes everything on a one-night

RAINBOW KISS is a play about life in the Granite City, a world where

only painkillers, and where cheap sex can cost you everything.
This is Simon Farquhar's first play for the Royal Court.

year.
• TB is the leading cause of death for people infected with
HIV/AIDS. Approximately 2 million die annually
• Malaria is estimated to kill one and a half million people every
year including one child every 30 seconds
• HIV. It is thought that there are around 40 million people living
with the disease worldwide. A staggering 700,000 children under 15
were infected in 2004.
